GentleCure
Superficial Radiation-Guided Therapy
Introducing GentleCure IG-SRT
Dermatology Associates is excited to announce the addition of an exciting new skin cancer treatment called GentleCure.
Also known as image-guided superficial radiation therapy (IG-SRT), GentleCure is a non-invasive, effective alternative to Mohs surgery for basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas. Administered over several weeks in our office by a radiation therapist, it is the first and only treatment to use low-energy radiation therapy (skin-deep only) guided by high-resolution ultrasound images to direct and assess response. With cure rates similar to Mohs surgery, there is no cutting, bleeding, pain, surgical scarring, or reconstructive surgery.
GentleCure can be used to provide effect treatment to prevent the recurrence of keloids after removal as well. Full information can be obtained at www.skincureoncology.com
What are the Potential Side-effects?
Side effects are only mild to moderate redness or irritation during treatment, and possible mild skin atrophy afterwards.
GentleCure vs Mohs Surgery
While GentleCure is not considered a replacement for Mohs surgery, it does provide an excellent alternative that will definitely benefit those patients who are poor surgical candidates, are worried about down-time, pain and scarring, or have fatigue from skin cancer surgeries in the past.
